It is madness, having to live so little time, to employ it in vain things. Of all the time you’ve been given, you will be asked how it was used on judgment day.
There is no price that equals the value of time. Time is a treasure that is found only in this life. We find ourselves in a very useful space of time to progress and improve ourselves, purifying our whole being. Don’t waste time. There is nothing more precious; but unfortunately nothing is more overlooked.
At the time of death, how much you will wish to have that time that you are now losing! The days of salvation pass and no longer return. “My son, take care of time” (Sir 4, 20).
Today you have the chance to do good; will you still have it tomorrow? What you can do today is not to postpone it until tomorrow because today it would pass in vain for you.
Truly time is a precious gift which, if well employed, leads us to full Happiness: let us face it with seriousness and respect.
But there is one thing to understand: there is a time for everything, because there is a time to exercise every virtue: we must always love, but infinite are the forms of love, and many are the events of our life that require different virtues.
Scripture shows us this way, this reality, and it would be foolish not to follow it. A famous passage from the Book of Ecclesiastes, which is part of the Old Testament, shows us this complexity of human life:
“Everything has its moment, and every event has its time under the sky.
There is a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to eradicate what has been planted.
A time to kill and a time to cure,
a time to demolish and a time to build.
A time to cry and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to collect them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from hugging.
A time to search and a time to lose,
a time to preserve and a time to throw away.
A time to tear and a time to sew,
a time to keep quiet and a time to talk.
A time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
What is the benefit of those who work hard?
I have considered the occupation that God has given to men so that they may labor. He made everything beautiful in his time; moreover, it has placed in their hearts the duration of the times, without however being able to find the reason for what God does from the beginning to the end “.
But then is it time in our power, or are we at the mercy of time? Also how to discern and choose the right time for each of our actions? There is a precise answer to these questions, and we will see it later.
